Pick 5 Rules
Everything you need to know before you make your first picks.
Quick Navigation
1. How It Works
Each round, pick 5 players from teams playing that round and rank them 1 to 5 in order of how confident you are they'll score. Each rank can only hold one player, so picking a player into a rank that's already taken moves your existing pick off that rank.
You can pick from any position — goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and attackers all count — but which position you pick matters for scoring (see section 2).
2. Points & Scoring
Each rank is worth a base number of points if that player scores:
- Rank 1 — 5 points
- Rank 2 — 4 points
- Rank 3 — 3 points
- Rank 4 — 2 points
- Rank 5 — 1 point
That base value is then multiplied by a position multiplier, set by your competition admin, that rewards picking a goal from a less attack-minded position. The typical defaults are:
- Goalkeeper — 10×
- Defender — 4×
- Midfielder — 2×
- Attacker — 1×
So a rank 1 pick on a goalkeeper who scores is worth far more than the same rank on an attacker — check your competition's settings page for its exact multipliers, since admins can change them.
3. Unique Pick Bonus
Some competitions turn on a unique pick bonus that rewards you for picking a scorer that hardly anyone else in the competition also picked. If it's enabled for your competition, check its settings for:
- How many other entrants can also pick the same player before the bonus stops applying (the uniqueness threshold)
- Whether the bonus is a flat number of extra points, or a multiplier on the pick's points
- The bonus amount itself
Not every competition enables this bonus — if it isn't turned on, only rank and position multiplier decide your points.
4. Pick Deadlines
Each pick locks 30 minutes before its own player's fixture kicks off — not the round as a whole. So if a round has games on Saturday and Monday, a pick tied to the Saturday game locks 30 minutes before that kickoff, while a pick tied to the Monday game stays open (and changeable) until 30 minutes before Monday's kickoff, letting you see Saturday's lineups and results before deciding on Monday's pick.
Once a specific pick's fixture has locked, that pick is final for that player and can't be changed or removed — but any other rank still tied to an unlocked fixture remains fully editable.
5. Winning
Pick 5 runs as a leaderboard over either the rest of the season or a fixed number of gameweeks, depending on how the competition admin set it up. Your total is the sum of every point you've scored across all counted rounds. Whoever has the highest total once the last counted gameweek is graded wins the competition — if two or more players are tied for the top score, they all win.
6. Settings Your Competition Admin Controls
Every Pick 5 competition is configured individually by whoever creates it. Before you join, check the competition's own settings for:
- The position multipliers for goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and attacker
- Whether the unique pick bonus is enabled, and its threshold, type, and value
- Entry fee and prize pool (or whether it's free to play)
- Whether the competition is public or invite-only, and whether it needs a password
Settings changes apply from the next ungraded round onward — they don't retroactively change points you've already scored.
7. What a Competition Admin Can Do
The person who created your competition (its admin/owner) can:
- Rename the competition and toggle whether it's publicly listed
- Send email invites, and share the invite code or invite link
- Set the position multipliers and unique pick bonus settings
- Mark a player's entry as paid or unpaid, for their own bookkeeping
- Remove a player from the competition
- View the leaderboard and every player's pick history
8. What a Competition Admin Cannot Do
To keep every competition fair, a competition admin does not have the ability to:
- See what any other player has picked before that round locks
- Change, remove, or place a pick on behalf of another player
- Change which players actually scored — that data comes from the league feed
Platform staff can intervene in exceptional cases — for example correcting a fixture data error — but this is a platform-level safeguard, not something available to competition admins themselves.
9. Joining a Competition
You can join a competition using its invite code, invite link, or by finding it in the public listings — right up until the deadline for its first round passes. Once that deadline has gone, the competition is closed to new entrants.
Rules apply to Pick 5 competitions. See your competition's own settings page for its specific configuration.
